Australian PM Condemns Influencer for Stealing Baby Wombat

The Australian Prime Minister has strongly criticised a US influencer after she was filmed stealing a baby wombat from its mother.

"Take a baby crocodile from his mother and see how you go there," he told journalists during a news conference, highlighting the reckless nature of the act.

Sam Jones, who describes herself as an "outdoor enthusiast and hunter" on Instagram, was recorded picking up the baby wombat from the side of a road and running with it to a car while its distressed mother chased after them. The video, filmed in Australia, sparked outrage and has since been deleted. Following the backlash, Ms Jones's Instagram account was set to private.

Authorities have confirmed that Ms Jones's visa is under review by immigration officials. Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke acknowledged growing calls for her deportation, as many argue that her actions violated wildlife protection laws.

The incident has led to widespread criticism, with conservationists stressing the dangers of interfering with native animals. Wildlife experts urge the public to leave wild animals undisturbed and report any concerns to licensed rescue organizations rather than attempting to handle them.
