Benedict Cumberbatch brought the multiverse to the stage at 30 Rock on Saturday night.
In the multiverse of madness, Dr. Strange took over this week's episode of Saturday Night Live with the help of musical guest Arcade Fire and used his opening monologue to discuss how sketch writers presented ideas for his latest film. Cumberbatch claims to have acted in other films, such as The Power of the Dog. However, Lorne Michaels said: "No one saw it.
I said, "Come on, I was nominated for an Oscar for that. I didn't win. Will Smith beat me," he joked, referring to Smith's embarrassing slap against Chris Rock. "Not physically. Not physically."
Cumberbatch is honored to host this Mother's Day issue of SNL and takes the time to thank his mother and wife. He also references his character Dr. It's odd to open a portal during his monologue, which will make Marvel fans happy to see. But, of course, Cumberbatch is expected to have fun with his Marvel credentials tonight, as the film will set some impressive numbers for the company.
For Variety, the Multiverse of Madness is now expected to gross over $175 million at the domestic box office and between $285 million and $340 million worldwide this weekend. This gives the film the second-biggest opening weekend of the COVID-19 era, just behind Spider-Man: No Way Home, which grossed $260 million in its first weekend.
Talking about the film, which also stars Benedict Wong, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Elizabeth Olsen, Cumberbatch told Complex's Kayla Rodriguez how much he has changed as an actor since the original in 2016.
"He doesn't feel strange," she said. "But the good thing is that we could stretch it and expand it in a way that only standalone films can. And, of course, there's a lot for audiences to enjoy and enjoy. And I can't wait to see what people think of the film." where are we going with this film and what is its potential.
