Benedict Cumberbatch wore a t-shirt supporting women's rights and Rowe v. Wade during SNL's home concert

The 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' star also mocked Will Smith for slapping Chris Rock during his opening monologue on Saturday Night Live - plus Elizabeth Olson's cameo!

The 45-year-old 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' actor stopped by Studio 8H over the weekend to perform live for the second time on a Saturday night, confirmed for the first time in November 2016.

Cumberbatch took to the stage with musical guests Arcade Fire and various SNL members to conclude his home concert. There, he and stars including Mikey Day, Chloe Feynman, Alex Moffat, Kyle Mooney, Chris Red, and Cecily Strong all wore white T-shirts with the words 1973 in blue and red letters.

The figure represents the year Rowe v. Wade was convicted on January 22, 1973, and a T-shirt was worn to support women's rights following a recent Supreme Court decision threatening to drop the landmark case. Cumberbatch also appears in a cold candid sketch to open the show, which satirizes Samuel Alito's draft Supreme Court decision.

The sketch in England in the 1200s shows Cumberbatch and other male legislators drafting legislation they know will influence policy years later. Cumberbatch joked about another recent event Will Smith beat Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars in his opening monologue.

Talking about his role in the Netflix film The Power of the Dog, which earned him his second Oscar nomination, the actor said, "I didn't win an Oscar; Will Smith beat me."

After the studio audience laughed at the joke, Cumberbatch scoffed at his choice of words, commenting, "No, not physically." The Marvel star then appeared in a series of hilarious skits throughout the night, including one that opened up for his mom to Mom. Day and other focus groups for Blue Bunny ice cream. Elizabeth Olson, star of Cumberbatch's Dr. Strange 2, even appeared in a skit.
