Bill Gates: The Man Who Is Credit for the Digital Revolution

William Henry Gates III, popularly referred to as Bill Gates, is an American business magnate born on 28th October 1955 in Seattle Washington. It is from childhood that Gates was known to have a certain passion towards computing and technology. Growing up, he began programming at the age of 13 with the General Electric computer, software that marked the beginning of his evolution as the leading figure in the world of computers.

At the age of 20 in 1975, Gates withdrew from Harvard University and with his friend Paul Allen formed Microsoft. Microsoft's strategized goal was to place a computer in every office and in every household. Their big wind came when they created the MS-DOS for the first IBM personal computer, which placed Microsoft on the dais of personal computing.

In Microsoft's formative years, Gates provided the vision for the company that changed the face of the software industry. The first critical event in the history of the computer was the release of the Windows operating system in 1985 that brought a new and more efficient way of using the computer through the windows graphical user interface. It expanded the market while also carving out its place in the Microsoft empire as a leading tech giant.

There is no doubt that philanthropy and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation are both significant concepts.

Gates started his philanthropic efforts in 2000 after realizing that he could devote more of his time to this end. He and his now ex-wife Melinda, established the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation which seeks to make a difference in some of the toughest challenges facing the world such as health, education and poverty. The charity efforts applied by both Gates have contributed to improvements in vaccination, education, and poverty alleviation programs worldwide.
