BintanGO's Strategy for Riding Indonesia's Influencer Wave

Indonesian creators wield considerable power, with research indicating that 62 percent of the country's consumers have purchased a product because an influencer endorsed it. However, individual creators are struggling as freelancers in a market for influencer marketing that is expected to be $104 billion this year alone. Enter BintanGO, a tech start-up that announced the completion of a $2.1 million seed funding round to support its platform for creators also influencers."

"In Indonesia, there is little to no digital infrastructure for creators," says Jason Lee, co-founder, and CEO of BintanGO. As a result, creators who work on their own must forge their business development opportunities while also managing their finances and day-to-day operations.

In practice, the BintanGO platform for creators assists in two areas.

First and foremost, it seeks to assist creators in securing new revenue-generating opportunities. Specific assignments are advertised by brands on the platform, making it much easier for creators to identify also source relevant work. Brands can also work more straight with BintanGO, requesting that the platform search its database for creators with specific skills, experience, or audience reach.

Second, BintanGO intends to assist with the practicalities of running a creator business by providing a suite of tools to make life easier. It enables creators, for example, to issue invoices for their work and collect payments more efficiently.

The concept appears to be resonating with people.

"When we announced the platform's launch, we were contacted by thousands of creators who wanted to join," Lee says. In just a some months, the platform has signed up 10,000 creators, who have earned $150,000 over the last quarter.

Oktorika Mandasari, Lee's co-founder also SVP Commercial at BintanGO, is particularly pleased with the demographics of those who have signed up. She points out that most creators on the platform are women, and 70% are under the age of 30. "These people make a living doing something they enjoy," Mandasari says. "We're assisting in empowering a new generation of entrepreneurs."
