British Prime Minister's new migration bill faces new conflict with the European Union

Rishi Sunak faces new conflict with the EU as Ylva Johansson warns that the new migration bill will be against human rights law.

In Britain's latest migration bill, Rishi Sunak has faced a new conflict with the European Union (EU), after a senior commissioner, Ylva Johansson, warned that the new migration bill would violate human rights law. This warning by the Chief Commissioner comes as the British Prime Minister prepares to meet French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday. At the meeting, the two leaders are expected to discuss regular payments to prevent boats carrying asylum seekers from passing through the English Channel. Macron
will host
Sunak for the first bilateral summit between Britain and France in five years on Friday. The goal of the meeting was to increase cooperation between the police and the coast guard and how to fund them.
According to Sunak, the migration crisis is one of his main priorities. However, Suella Braverman, Home Secretary, insisted the new law would criminalize, detain and deport refugees, which falls under human rights law. While EU Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson has opposed the new bill and believes the asylum schemes would violate international law. "I told him I thought it was a violation of international law," Johansson said, Politico reported.
New migration bill violates international law: EU Commissioner
Earlier Sunak said he was 'ready to fight' to introduce new legislation to tackle the small boat crisis. The Sunak government has introduced new legislation to prevent migrants from crossing the English Channel in small boats to reach the UK illegally. The legislation was previously presented to parliament by UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman. Sunak's draft new law aimed at preventing arrests was announced on March 8 at press conference #10, The Sun reported.
However, the UK authorities have agreed that the new Illegal Migration Bill would violate human rights law. The move has been criticized by the opposition Labor Party as well as the United Nations refugee agency, UNHCR.

Now Johansson's comment has been added to the idea that ministers may think this new bill will stall due to legal challenges and possibly a defiant attempt to provoke at odds with Labor in the upcoming general election, the Guardian reports.
