Russian state media reported that US basketball star Britney Grinner's detention in Russia had been extended again.
The Phoenix Mercury star was arrested at Moscow Airport on February 17 after marijuana oil was allegedly found in his luggage.
Griner, 31, could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
On Tuesday, TASS reported that his detention was extended for another 18 days upon request for an investigation, according to representatives of the Khimki court in the Moscow region.
According to the BBC's US partner CBS News, a Russian court had previously extended his detention until May 19 and then again until mid-June. Ms. Greener's representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
US State Department spokesman Ned Price said Tuesday that Greener "should not be detained for another day."
"Our position on this issue has been apparent for some time: Britney Greener must not go to jail," Mr. Price answered questions about his case.
Last month, nearly 100 days after his detention, the State Department described Greener as "illegally detained."
State Department officials met with Grinner's teammates from the WNBA on Monday to discuss the administrative work of bringing him home.
"There was a lot to get them home and safe; they worked tirelessly," Phoenix Mercury star Diana Taurasi said in a statement from the team after the meeting.
"We are here to do our best to grow and keep BG at the top, which is more important than a basketball game or whatever happens in our lives."
