When it comes to her Grey's Anatomy character, Camilla Luddington looks to the future.

"I feel like Joe took the time to heal and move on...so I'm ready for this new journey of love," Camilla Ludington told news about Joe Wilson's future in Grey's Anatomy.

On Thursday, the actress - who plays Joe Wilson in the ABC medical drama - revealed what's in store for her character's love life - and whether she would consider bringing her ex-husband Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) back to the big screen, should the opportunity arise.

"I feel like [Alex] is doing badly," Luddington, 38, told news during the 400th episode of Grey's Anatomy in Hollywood. "How can you explain this letter, for example?" On the other hand, I feel like Joe took the time to heal and move on. So I'm ready for this new love journey.

In 2020, Chambers' favorite character left Gray Sloan Memorial, his wife Joe, and his home for 16 seasons. In four separate letters to Joe, Meredith Gray (Ellen Pompeo), Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), and Richard Weber (James Pickens Jr.), Alex - looking back over the past 16 seasons - explains the reason for his sudden departure: moving to Kansas with his ex-wife Izzy Stevens (Catherine Heigl) and their 5-year-old twins.

"You deserve more than a letter," Alex said in his letter to Joe. "This cowardice is officially the worst thing I've ever done. It's about me; it's not about you. You deserve more than that. I love you, Joe. Never let it hold you. It makes you stronger and better. You make me kinder. You love me the way I am, and I love you. I love you. It might not be fair to say that, but it's true. But it's also true: I fell in love with Izzy. " "He's here in Kansas, on a farm in this amazing place in the middle of nowhere," he continued. "Izzy has kids, and I know you know what that means. "You all know why I can't go now. So I have the opportunity to complete this family again.

"I want to get everything I've always wanted; it shouldn't hurt you in the process," he added. "But I can't lie to you, and I can't go home. I'm not going home, Joe. I can't face you. I can not look at you in the eye because I can't walk... Thanks for looking after me when I needed it.

Alex then tells Joe that he signed the divorce papers and left his share of the Gray Sloan Memorial. In January 2020, ABC confirmed to news that Chambers, 51, would not be returning to the franchise.
