Cheryl Burke revealed some intimate details about her marriage.
"People sometimes grow and grow together, and sadly sometimes they break up," Cheryl Burke said of their marriage during an upcoming show at Tamron Hall.
In an exclusive clip from Wednesday's episode of Tamron Hall, the 38-year-old reveals to Dancing with the Stars professionals that she's been in therapy with ex Matthew Lawrence during her nearly three-year marriage and explains why she's doing it. No regrets.
"I'm a big supporter of therapy," he told Hall. "I believe in that. Matt and I had couples therapy before we even got married. I think people associate treatment with, oh my God, there's a problem.
"But I think it's very healthy to have an unbiased third person who can give you ways and tools to communicate." "I'm not sorry for any of that. I think it helped both of us."
"Emotions also feelings can get in the way and be misinterpreted. So I was a big supporter of that," he added. "We only realized then. People evolve. People grow. And sometimes they grow up together, and sometimes they break up sadly." In February, Burke filed for divorce from 42-year-old Lawrence, whom he married in May 2019.
Burke and Lawrence's official breakup date is listed as January 7 in court documents obtained by news. The paper points to irreconcilable differences as the reason for the separation and states that they signed a prenuptial agreement.
Lawrence then responded to the motion received from news, asking the court to end spouse support for each person. He also asked for confirmation of the former couple's marriage contract, which will determine the distribution of assets.
After the breakup, Burke focused on treatment and continued to work on himself.
I realize that whenever I'm at a time in my life where I need to process some big emotion, the best thing I can do is spend some time alone apart from [my dog] Iza, of course, but I feel like he's a part of me, so he doesn't count," Burke wrote on Instagram. "Honestly, the feelings I feel are new to me."
Noting that she "spent her whole life so far trying to cover up her feelings," the dancer continued, "I learned that it is MUCH harder to get through. All of this means that the best thing for me to do is experience it. My feeling, whatever it was, was to be alone for a few days.
