One influencer got it right in honor of Chiara Ferragni, who redefined the term "influencer" in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic Amid tone-deaf celebrity reactions to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Professional social media users follow the rules:
- Maximize your reach by posting on specific days and times.
- Use appropriate hashtags.
- Always disclose when content is sponsored.
But what happens when something completely unprecedented occurs, not just for social media but for the entire world, such as the current coronavirus pandemic? In Chiara Ferragni's case, she released her most crucial content to date.
As the pandemic's severity grew worldwide, many influencers were unsure what to post for fear of appearing insensitive or out of touch. "I'm not sure what's appropriate to wear here and what isn't," The Man Repeller's Leandra Cohen wrote.
However, Ferragni, an Italian blogger turned entrepreneur with a 19 million (as of this writing) following, figured it out rather quickly. For those unaware, the 32-year-old is no stranger to setting the tone on social media. Her former one-woman fashion blog, The Blonde Salad, which has since evolved into a lifestyle website with its team of employees, paved the way for fashion and lifestyle influencers.
But, amid the coronavirus pandemic, Ferragni demonstrated that she is more than just a sharp business mind behind her carefully curated Instagram feed.
Ferragni take on a new role in the influencer world in early March, as Italy became the epicenter of coronavirus outbreaks in Europe, partnering with hospitals over beauty brands and trading in custom Prada dresses and ski vacations for 'house look of the day' photos.
Ferragni was among the first to heed government guidance on self-isolation. Ferragni, who lives in the northern region with the highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases, began staying at home before the government-mandated lockdown on March 9.
To raise awareness, she used her Instagram following to encourage others in Italy and worldwide to do the same.
