"There's so much shame and hiding," Glaser says of his 18-year preoccupation with eating disorders.
Nicki Glaser has worked to reach where her life is "not consumed by food." But it took her 18 years to get there and overcome her anorexia also bulimia.
"I learned what women do: they complain about their bodies and can't afford to have the things they want," Glaser says.
Her anorexia started as a high school student when she discovered that people praised her after a day without eating.
"They said, 'You look great.' You look like you've lost weight. I got an A on a test I've never studied. It was the best feeling," said Welcome Home star Nikki Glaser. Positive feedback." Glaser was hospitalized and managed to improve enough to "reassure people" that he was fine and could handle going to college, where he continued to starve. Opening up a stand-up helps-it gives "the same sense of validation, concern, and acceptance that she had when she was thin." This led Glaser to find a therapist to help him with his eating disorder, and he started eating, "but then I couldn't stop."
"My anorexia turned into overeating, which became bulimia," Glaser says, and in his 20s, he would starve all day, wait until dark, and eat all night. I was obsessed with calories and kept working out. Unfortunately, it causes stress fractures and fractures, and then I can't exercise, so I'm going to starve again.
