Canada's emergency medical services are facing a crisis. The
situation is such that patients have to wait for 100 to 125 hours for
treatment. Trauma patients also have to wait for four days. There is a severe
shortage of health workers in Canada.
The situation is such that even patients who recover with
primary care are falling ill due to lack of supervision. Canada is facing a
shortage of about 7,500 doctor-medical staff. Ontario doctor Raghu Venugopal
believes it's all political, too.
Even after more than 20 emergency departments in Ontario
closed due to lack of staff, the health minister says it's not an emergency.
Such a comment is inappropriate. The Canadian Medical Association (CMA) has
also called it a national emergency.
While the leaders of the province have also raised their
voices in this matter. A cabinet meeting in July proposed a 35 percent increase
in the health budget, but Canadian PM Justin Trudeau says he wants to see a
positive outcome of Rs 3.70 lakh crore for health this year.
Proposal for Retirement of Retired Doctor-Nurse
To deal with the crisis, the Canadian government and the
country's health officials are trying to bring in nurses from abroad and rehire
recently retired nurses. The province of Saskatchewan has increased funding for
health workers. It will recruit new doctors, nurses and other medical
personnel.
