Dolly Parton donates another million dollars to Vanderbilt this time for a study of pediatric infectious disease.

Dolly Parton is a gift she keeps on giving!


In 2020, Parton donated $1 million to a university that helps fund research for the Moderna vaccine.

On Wednesday, Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville announced that the country music artist had donated another $1 million to pediatric infectious disease research.

"No child should suffer," Parton, 76, said in a statement explaining the reason for his donation. "I'm willing to do my part to keep as many of them as healthy and safe as possible."

The funds will help advance Vanderbilt's leading research into disease causes, understand antibiotic resistance, and prevent and treat infections in children with cancer. Parton's niece, Hannah Denison, was treated for leukemia as a child at Monroe Karel Jr. Children's Hospital. in the Vanderbilt Pediatric Oncology Program.

"Dolly's previous help for infectious disease research and our childhood cancer program has saved countless lives," said Dr. Jeff Balsser, President and CEO of Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Dean of the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine at Vanderbilt University, in a press release Wednesday. "This new gift will strengthen our defenses against future threats to the region's security and society at large.

This is not the first time the "9 to 5" singer has made generous donations to hospitals. In 2020, he donated $1 million, which was used to fund Moderna's vaccine research.

"My old friend Dr. Naji Abumrad, who has been involved in research at Vanderbilt for many years, shared with me that he is making some interesting advances in coronavirus research for cures," the singer shared on Instagram at the time.

"I'm donating $1 million to Vanderbilt for this research," he continued, urging others who "can afford" to donate as well.
