Donald Trump Jr. will soon meet with the House select committee investigating last year's Capitol riot. The former president's son's voluntary appearance would follow the testimony of his sister Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner, both White House advisors.
Trump Jr., 44, was scheduled to meet with the panel in the coming days.
The committee has text messages sent during the riot from a Trump Organization executive to former White House chief of team Mark Meadows, which show White House officials were concerned about the violence at the Capitol.
"He has to condemn [the riot] ASAP," Trump Jr. texted Meadows, according to panelist Sen. Liz Cheney. Meadows responded, "I'm pushing it hard." "I concur."
"We need an Oval Office address," wrote Trump Jr. "He must now take the initiative. It's gotten too far and out of hand." After cutting an initial voluntary meeting short, Kimberly Guilfoyle, Trump Jr.'s fiancée, complied with a subpoena and spoke with investigators for the second time earlier this week.
Guilfoyle was questioned about her role in organizing and raising funds for the White House rally that preceded the violent revolt, which she attended alongside former President Donald Trump.
Earlier this month, the nine-member committee unanimously voted to hold former aides Peter Navarro also Dan Scavino in contempt of Congress for denying to comply with a subpoena.
In a court filing ahead of its findings, the panel, comprised of seven Democrats and two Republicans, alleged that Trump conspired to "defraud the United States."
