El Fanning on the fashion fantasy behind his vision at Cannes: 'You have to bring drama

I had a so much of fun with this," a spokesperson for L'Oréal Paris International told news about working with Samantha Macmillan's stylist on her display cabinet in Cannes.

Preparing for the Cannes red carpet is a marathon, not a sprint. Just ask Elle Fanning, who spent months rethinking her fashion-forward moments with stylist Samantha Macmillan.

"I had a so much of fun with this," Elle told the news at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival. Samantha and I worked together to develop the look and design of the outfit in our heads, and I enjoyed the process.

The process can take some time, according to 24-year-old Fanning, who says she worked closely with her hair, makeup, and styling team to figure out which "characters" were targeting the carpet.

"I've always loved fashion, and Cannes is probably the biggest and best red carpet in the world," said a spokesperson for L'Oréal Paris International. "There's nothing like it - so wide on both sides that you have to think about a 360-degree view."

Fanning added that the Palais des Festivals' famous carpet and stairs "cannot be hidden." "Looks like the train has to be perfect-the 360-degree view has to be a bit dramatic."

And she brought with her the drama she created with the Top Gun: Maverick premiere in a custom Armani Privé Rouge gown that included intricate sequins, tulle lining, fishtail, and a romantic lover's neckline. She completed the look with a stunning Chopard necklace with diamonds and fabric from the dress in her hair; Glow Amour Glow Boosting Drops in Golden Hour, waterproof Flash Cat Eye eyeliner in black, and Infallible Pro-Matte Liquid Lipstick in Pink Soiree.

For L'Oréal Paris' birthday dinner on Wednesday night, Fanning gave a retro Hollywood glow in her black Giambattista Valli strapless gown paired with Chopard jewelry and PÄ«feri mesh crystal heels.
