Elon Musk recalls Taj visit, Paytm CEO questions about Tesla launch in India

"We are known to be the movement's most disobedient participants," Sharma added.

Several states in India have invited Tesla to set up manufacturing facilities on their land, but Elon Musk says there are still many challenges in making this happen.

Billionaire Elon Musk has often been asked when the coveted Tesla car will arrive in India. So when he tweeted on May 9 about a trip to India in 2007, Paytm CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma answered the question.

The conversation started when Elon Musk responded to a photo of Agra Fort shared by a Twitter account called History Defined.

"It's amazing," said the Tesla CEO. "I was there in 2007 and saw the Taj Mahal, which is truly a world wonder.

Then Vijay Shekhar Sharma jumped up and asked: "When did you come here to deliver the first Tesla to the Taj?" First, however, he warned Musk that developing a fully self-driving car for India was a "tremendous challenge."

Several states in India have invited Tesla to set up manufacturing facilities on their land. In January, Musk said his company faced "many challenges for the Indian government." Tesla has called for a reduction in import tariffs to sell high-performance electric cars in India.

Recently, Adar Punawala, CEO of the Serum Institute of India, urged Musk to start producing Tesla cars in India.

"Hey Elon Musk, just in case you don't buy Twitter, try investing some of this capital in INDIA to produce big high-quality @Tesla cars. I guarantee this will be the good investment I have ever made for you," he tweeted on March 8.
