Elon Musk said Twitter could soon start billing certain users as the billionaire continues to tease how he could change the platform as its new owner.

Musk, who struck a deal of about $44 billion to buy Twitter last week, tweeted that the platform "will always be free for users" but may have "low costs for commercial/government users.". The Tesla and SpaceX CEO announced a potentially major update following a more mysterious tweet he shared earlier Tuesday, which read, "Ultimately, Freemasonry's case is giving their mason services away for free."

Musk's suggestion that Twitter might start billing some business and government users comes as company employees. Millions of Twitter users await some clues about how the acquisition will impact the platform, which is now set to be privatized. News of Musk's acquisition has left lawmakers in the United States and Europe wondering for the past week.

Musk referred to Twitter as a "digital marketplace" in the initial statement that his takeover bid had been accepted, in which he hinted at some upcoming changes.

"I also wanted to make Twitter better than ever by improving the product with new features, developing open-source algorithms to increase trust, defeating spambots, and authenticating everyone," Musk said.

Musk has also repeated time and time that he hopes to further promote "free speech" on Twitter - although details on how he will do so are unclear. He also shared with his 90 million followers on Twitter that he intends to add end-to-end encryption to Twitter direct messages.
