Former Debenhams Store Set to Transform into Vibrant Entertainment Hub in Wigan

In a significant development for Wigan, plans have been approved to transform the former Debenhams store in the Grand Arcade into an exciting new entertainment and retail hub. The new venue, named Stack, will feature a dynamic mix of bars, street food outlets, and performance stages, offering a fresh and engaging space for locals and visitors alike.

The Debenhams store, which closed its doors in 2021, has been temporarily occupied by the pop-up charity shop Rebuild With Hope. The new Stack development is set to breathe new life into the space, revitalizing it into a bustling destination.

Neill Winch, Chief Executive of Stack, expressed confidence in the project's success. "We are excited to bring Stack to Wigan and are confident that it will become a beloved destination embraced by the local community," Winch said. The Stack brand, known for revitalizing underutilized spaces, first launched in Newcastle in 2018. Since then, it has expanded to Sunderland and Lincoln, creating vibrant hubs in each location.

The Wigan site, which will occupy a portion of the former Debenhams store, is designed to accommodate up to 2,000 people across two floors. The development is expected to generate approximately 140 new jobs, providing a boost to the local economy and creating opportunities for residents.

Stack's mission to revitalize underutilized spaces aligns with its broader strategic direction of transforming vacant properties into thriving community destinations. "This is a strategic direction for STACK as we continue to breathe new life into underutilized spaces, turning them into destinations that benefit both local communities and businesses," Winch added.

The new Stack development promises to offer a range of amenities and activities, including live performances and a diverse selection of food and drink options. By turning the former Debenhams into a lively entertainment venue, Stack aims to enhance the vibrancy of Wigan's Grand Arcade and provide a new focal point for social and cultural events in the area.

As work progresses on the transformation, the local community eagerly anticipates the opening of the new entertainment hub.
