Hailey Bieber says adopting birth control as a migraine sufferer contributed to her mini-strokes

Hailey Bieber opened up about the mini-stroke recently.

Hailey Bieber opened up about her recent health scare in a 12-minute video posted to YouTube on Wednesday.

"One was that I had just started taking birth control pills, which I should never have taken because I keep having migraines," she says. "And I just haven't spoken to my doctor about it." Warning his followers to learn from their mistakes, he continues, "So if you have a bad migraine and are planning to start taking birth control pills, tell your doctor because stroke is a possible side effect of birth control pills." ."

According to research conducted by Loyola Medicine stroke specialists, neurologists Sarkis Morales-Vidal, MD, and Jose Biller, MD, hormonal contraceptive use may be considered a risk factor for stroke, although the likelihood is low.

"However, women with other risk factors for stroke appear to be at greater risk, and in most cases use of oral contraceptives should be avoided," writes Dr. Morales Vidal and Dr. Biller in the medical journal Medlink Neurology, adds several risk factors, including high blood pressure, smoking, and migraines - especially migraines with sensory disturbances called atmospheres (such as flashes and tingling in the hands or face).

Bieber was in to a hospital in Palm Springs last month for emergency medical treatment. He later said that he was hospitalized with stroke-like symptoms caused by a blood clot in his brain.

As he tries to explain the situation in his own words, he notes other factors contributing to his recent health scare, including his COVID diagnosis and recent travels.

After being discharged from the hospital, she visited UCLA for follow-up, where she was diagnosed with PFO after transcranial Doppler, a "more accurate" and "thorough" ultrasound test-used to detect strokes caused by blood clots.
