The political calculus has shifted once more for Nikki Haley. Not too long ago, the former South Carolina governor vocally criticized Donald Trump, citing concerns about his age, temperament, and leadership style, expressing doubt about his ability to defeat President Joe Biden.

"I feel no obligation to pledge allegiance," Haley remarked in February, announcing the suspension of her primary campaign. "My future in politics is not my primary concern."

However, on Wednesday, she tacitly offered the endorsement that many anticipated. While acknowledging Trump's imperfections on issues such as foreign policy and national debt, she labeled Biden's presidency as a "catastrophe."

"Therefore, I will be casting my vote for Trump," declared the former US ambassador to the United Nations, who served in Trump's Cabinet.

Despite leaving her UN role in 2018 to avoid association with Trump's tumult, Haley found herself at odds with him as 2024 approached. Initially stating she wouldn't challenge her former boss for the presidency, she eventually entered the race, much to Trump's lingering displeasure.

Prior to losing her home state's primary to Trump earlier this year, Haley criticized fellow Republicans who supported Trump while privately expressing reservations about him. "In politics, groupthink is pervasive," she remarked. "Many Republican politicians have succumbed to it. Despite privately acknowledging Trump's shortcomings, they are reluctant to speak out against him."
