Jada Pinkett Smith shares some potentially life-saving advice her mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris, once gave.
"As far as I'm concerned, I could be trafficked," Jada Pinkett Smith told Red Table Talk about interacting in Italy at 20.
This week's episode of Red Table Talk on Facebook Watch delved into the mother-daughter relationship, with guest Kelly McDaniel, author of Mother Hunger, joining Jada, her daughter Willow Smith and Banfield-Norris (aka Gammy) for a spirited discussion to follow.
In a video shared exclusively with PEOPLE, Jada, 50, recalls being alone in Italy when she was 20 and calling her mother to ask if she should accept the invitation from the ship. When the story was mentioned, Gami smiled and nodded, agreeing that he remembered the incident.
Remember when the waiter told me, "I have a boat; I want to take you to dinner"? I thought, "Oh, I'm in Italy! I'm 20 years old, do you know what I'm saying?" said Jada with a laugh." So I called my mother and said, "Mom, the maid wants to take me on this boat." He said, "Well if he has a boat, what does he do to park the car? And second, you don't get on the boat with anyone."
She continued her mother's advice: "If something happens to you, no one will hear you. You'll be in the middle of nowhere. Don't do that, Jada!" And I said, 'Oh, click, ma'am. You're right.' "
"And let me tell you," added Jada, "because I want to get on that boat." From what I understand, I might have been trafficked. Right. Because they know I'm alone. I still think: 'He saved my life again.' Also, in this episode, entitled How a Harmful Mother Harms Her Daughter: Could It Be You?, Jada reminisces about her childhood and says, "I had to deal with a lot of stressful things as a young adult.
