The reading of explicit text messages and the airing of audio and video of angry outbursts and confrontations with former wife Amber Heard dominated the afternoon's cross-examination of Hollywood star Johnny Depp.
According to 'Deadline,' as one audio clip played near the end of the day's proceedings, Depp, on the witness stand, wiped his eyes with his hand before grabbing a tissue.
The audio was recorded in July 2016, following the couple's divorce and Heard's request for a restraining order against him.
Heard implores him, "Don't sever your skin. Please don't sever your skin. Why would I do such a thing? Please don't do it. Please do not injure yourself."
Throughout the day, Heard's attorneys unleashed a barrage of messages to show that Depp used violent language in texts with his wife. Depp wrote in one, which was read aloud by Heard's attorney Ben Rottenborn, "The only reason we go for the throat is love."
Heard responded by writing, "You have my throat. You're going to be my undoing, but I don't care." "I have other uses for your throat that do not include injury," Depp responded. "I'm sorry, could you read that again?" Depp said on the witness stand.
"Please let me know when you have a moment. And I'll contact you... Nothing I have to say to you should make you feel anything but at ease... My heartfelt condolences and heartfelt apologies."
Heard's attorneys also showed a video of Depp slamming his kitchen cupboard and breaking other objects heard had taken. Finally, he pours a tall glass of wine into it. "Did you finish this whole thing this morning?" Before discovering that she had been recording with her phone and appearing to throw it away, I heard inquiries.
"I was having a bad time," Depp admitted in court. He acknowledged that he "attacked a couple of cabinets, but I did not touch Miss Heard."
