Justin Lin, who was ready to direct Fast X, the tenth installment of the Fast & Furious franchise, has announced that he will no longer require the film. Lin, who co-wrote the movie with Dan Mazeau and directed five other films in the franchise, announced the news on the film's Instagram account on Tuesday.
"Over ten years and five films, we've been able to shoot the best actors, stunts, and damn car chases," he continued. "On a personal note, like the child of Asian immigrants, I am proud to have contributed to creating the most diverse film franchise in history."
"I will be eternally grateful to the incredible cast, crew, and studio for their support and welcoming me into the FAST family," he said.
Fast X began filming last week, with returning cast members Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Sung Kang, Ludacris, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, also Nathalie Emmanuel. Cardi B, who had a much-talked-everywhere cameo in F9, is also back.
Lin directed five previous films in the franchise before joining it in the third installment, The Fast also the Furious: Tokyo Drift, in 2006. He later directed Fast & Furious (2009), Fast Five (2011), and Fast & Furious 6. (2013).
He didn't direct the seventh and eighth installments, but he did return for last year's F9, which grossed over $720 million worldwide.
Diesel, 54, announced Brie Larson's addition to the Fast X cast earlier this month, posting a selfie with the Academy Award winner on their Instagram feed.
"Yeah, yeah, you watch this angel over my shoulder cracking me up, and you think to yourself, 'That's Captain Marvel,'" he began his caption. "There is love alsolaughter in this image."
