Gacek, a large black and white cat, has become a popular tourist attraction in the Polish city of Szczecin, with more than 1,000 Google reviews giving her a near-perfect score. Gacek is a free-ranging cat who has been living in a box on Kaszubska Street for years. His picture was shared on Instagram, and a video about him received 4.5 million views on Facebook and YouTube.
The Instagram handle "kotgacekeveryday" shared Gacek's picture, and it's pronounced "gats-ek," which means "long-eared bat" in Polish. The handle has 50 posts and designates Gacek as the number one tourist attraction in Szczecin. Some visitors have come from all over Poland and even from other countries to see Gacek.
A day ago, the Instagram page reported that "Gack something happened on GoogleMaps". Miss!'.
"We don't know why or how (Google may have viewed the review storm as spam or someone "nice" reported it as closed). We don't know what's next, but it's definitely a bit sad. I didn't have any of that anymore, which was fun and proud. It's even sillier that the fame has gone a bit international and Google has those numbers. If anyone knows how to respond, please respond. We have already written to support and to the Googlepolska tweeter, but maybe someone has better plugs. Any help is appreciated."

Some visitors shared their experiences with Gacek, with one saying it was worth traveling three hours to feel ignored by him. Another visitor flew in from Oslo, to see Gacek, and he wasn't disappointed when the cat ignored her. However, not all visitors were happy, with one expressing a fondness for dogs and another claiming that Gacek stole a sausage.
However, there are concerns that he appears to be overweight from the treats he gets from visitors, and the city's animal shelter has asked people not to feed him. Despite this, Gacek's fame continues to grow and he has become a popular local attraction. A sign near Gacek's house states that anyone wishing to give him snacks must leave them in a sealed package for the owner to open. "I like to pose for photos but please don't pet me while I'm napping," she added.
According to a blog, Notes From Poland, in 2021 a dog in Gdansk, another city on Poland's Baltic coast, also became one of the top-rated local tourist attractions on Google by regularly appearing on a balcony. However, the dog was withdrawn from service after receiving hundreds of reviews, and the reason is unknown.
