Kim Woodburn, Star of 'How Clean Is Your House?', Dies at 83
Beloved British reality TV star Kim Woodburn, best known for co-hosting Channel 4's How Clean Is Your House?, has died aged 83 following a short illness. Her death was confirmed by her agent on June 16, 2025, marking the end of a remarkable and often turbulent journey that made her a household name in the UK and beyond.
Born Patricia Mary McKenzie in 1942 in Eastney, Hampshire, Woodburn overcame a troubled childhood marked by abuse, poverty, and hardship. She began working as a cleaner in her teens, eventually becoming a live-in housekeeper a profession that would unexpectedly propel her to television fame.
Her big break came in 2003 when she was cast alongside Aggie MacKenzie on How Clean Is Your House?, a programme that combined cleaning tips with shock-value home makeovers. Woodburn's sharp tongue, immaculate appearance, and no-nonsense attitude quickly made her a fan favourite. Her catchphrases and stern scoldings of dirty homeowners became iconic, earning her the affectionate nickname "Queen of Clean."
The show ran until 2009 and led to several spin-offs, books, and merchandise.
It also brought international attention, including an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show. After the show ended, Woodburn continued to appear in the public eye, notably as a contestant on I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! in 2009 and Celebrity Big Brother in 2017, where her fiery exchanges and unapologetic personality once again captivated viewers.
Behind the scenes, Woodburn faced numerous personal challenges, including partial blindness, alopecia, and thyroid disease. In early 2025, she revealed she was stepping away from the spotlight due to health concerns, stating on social media: "No more videos for now, my loves, I need to get better."
Woodburn's husband of more than 45 years, Peter, has described himself as "devastated" by her passing, calling her "his soulmate and greatest love." Tributes from across the entertainment world have poured in, with many praising her authenticity, humour, and resilience.
Former co-star Aggie MacKenzie shared her condolences, saying: "Working with Kim was like walking a tightrope tense, but unforgettable. She was one of the bravest people I've ever known."
From working-class beginnings to becoming one of Britain's most recognisable television personalities, Kim Woodburn's legacy lies not just in the homes she helped clean, but in the hearts she touched with her candour and strength.
She will be remembered not only as a television icon but as a symbol of determination, honesty, and the power of being unapologetically oneself.
