Oprah Winfrey surprises her dad Vernon with an awards ceremony.

"We want all her friends to come and celebrate while she can have fun," Oprah Winfrey says of her father, Vernon Winfrey.

The 68-year-old media mogul celebrated with a particular surprise party for his father, Vernon Winfrey, on Monday, July 4th.

In a video uploaded on her Instagram, Oprah tell that although she had a backyard barbecue, the real reason for the event was to have Vernon Winfrey Appreciation Day. "My dad is sick, so we want all his friends to come and celebrate while he's happy," he said, waving a flag behind him in honor of his 88-year-old father.

When her best friend Gayle King asked if her dad was "excited" about the celebration, Oprah said, "He didn't even know it was for her." "He thought it was July 4th," he continued. "He doesn't know... He'll come out and see it all." Oprah looked at the menu for the event and said it served fried chicken, turkey, burgers "and all that."

He then ends the video by showing his father capturing the moment in a place he knows best. "My father is a barber, so we put him in the barber's chair," he said, gesturing to his dad, sitting across the yard.

In the caption of her image, Oprah wrote, "I gave my dad 'flowers' while he was still healthy enough to kiss them. Happy 4th of July get-together with family and friends. Don't forget to celebrate each other.'

It is currently unclear what illness Vernon is dealing with. Oprah did not provide further information about her father's condition. However, over the past few days, Oprah has been documenting her time in Nashville, Tennessee, where her father currently lives.

She shared several photos also videos from her time with her family and a video with King, 67, of them having breakfast together.

"Making breakfast for the all family with @gayleking #Nashvillestyle," Oprah wrote in the clip showing them making bacon, sausage, and grits.
