God says he is 'sick and heartbroken' over Roe's possible fall: 'I'm still speechless
Lorde took time to process the expired draft opinion, which suggests that a majority of the justices will vote for Roe v. Wade to drop the case that guaranteed abortion rights.
During the 25-year-old singer's Solar Tour Thursday at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, he took the time to express his feelings about the idea that SCOTUS could soon reverse that extraordinary decision.
"Like many of you, this week I am upset and heartbroken by the news that some people think our bodies don't belong to us," Lord told the audience on stage before singing "Hard Feelings" from the 2017 melodrama. "And I still don't have the words to talk to you about it. It's huge and cumbersome."
During Lorde's Solar Tour in Los Angeles on Thursday, he took the time to express his feelings about the idea that SCOTUS could quickly reverse that critical decision.
"I think it's good to freeze for a bit, you know, and then jump right back in," the mood ring musician continued. "But I'm trying to say that I've had some big, heavy ones - what I'm experiencing, what I'm feeling." Abortion, in particular, was decriminalized in Lord New Zealand's home country in March 2020.
Lord joins many other musicians who have recently talked about a possible solution, which is expected to emerge in late June. Earlier this week, Olivia Rodrigo criticized the Supreme Court during an appointment in Washington, D.C., on their Sour concert tour. "Decision," the 19-year-old singer-songwriter said on May 5 to applause from the audience.
"Our bodies must not be in the hands of politicians," continued Rodrigo. "I hope we can speak up in defense of our right to safe abortion, a right that many before us have worked so hard for. This is very important."
"I had an abortion on tour last October," the 27-year-old singer from Kyoto wrote on her Instagram story on May 4. "I went to Planned Parenthood, where I was given the abortion pill. Easy. Everyone deserves such access."
