Sasha Baron Cohen slams social media sites for failing to ban Russian state TV

Sasha Baron Cohen gave his opinion.

Bintang Borat asked those in charge of Facebook, Twitter, Google, and YouTube in a statement on the social network.

The 50-year-old actor took to Twitter on Wednesday, calling on some of the world's most popular social media platforms and their leaders to "benefit from Putin's propaganda" in light of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. He criticized the sites for not blocking Russian state television.

Cohen first tagged executives from Facebook, Twitter, Google, and YouTube -- Mark Zuckerberg, Parag Agrawal, Sundar Pichai, and Susan Wojcicki -- and shared black-and-white photos of the CEOs.

"Putin just bombed the children's hospital but @Facebook, @instagram, @Twitter, and @YouTube still showing the Russian state RT," Cohen wrote, citing Russian media networks.

"Why are you exploiting Putin's propaganda?!" continued Bintang Borat. "Remove Russian RT from your platform NOW!" A representative from each of the leading social media companies and their respective companies did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

Russia's offensive in Ukraine continued after its forces launched a full-scale invasion on February 24 - Europe's first major land conflict in decades. The details of the fighting change daily, but hundreds of civilians, including children, were killed or injured.

As NATO forces build up in the region around Ukraine, various countries have also pledged aid or military support for the resistance. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called for peace talks - so far to no avail - and urged his country to respond. Putin, 69, stressed Ukraine has historical ties with Russia and is acting in the best interests of their country.

Zelensky, 44, vowed not to stop. "No one will destroy us; we are strong; we are Ukraine," he told the European Union in the first days of fighting, adding: "Life will beat death." And the light will overcome the darkness."
