Selena Gomez receives 'very personal' welcome to mental health during White House speech

Selena Gomez goes private and shares her mental health journey.


Mental health is very personal to me, and I look forward to helping others feel less alone by using my platform to share my own stories and work with amazing people like all of you," she said.

The 29-year-old star of The Only Murders in the Building spoke passionately about the "destigmatization" of mental health during his appearance at the Youth Mental Health Action Forum hosted by MTV Entertainment at the White House on Wednesday.

"To add to just a small part of my journey, I feel that once I understand what's going on mentally, I have more freedom to be good with what I have because I've learned it," he said. "Bringing media attention to mental health or simply talking about her journey can help. This is an example of a topic that can and should be discussed freely and without shame."

The Revelación singer along with First Lady Jill Biden, Ambassador Susan Rice, US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, and 30 adolescent mental health activists - says she is using her platform to create change. His mother, Mandy Teafe, was also present.

"Mental health is very personal to me, and I look forward to using my platform to share my own stories and collaborate with amazing people like all of you," she said. "I can help other people feel less alone and find the help they need, and honestly, that's all I want," Gomez added that she hopes to offer mental health services to anyone who needs them.

"When it comes to and stigmatizing mental health, I want to make sure everyone, regardless of age, race, religion or sexual orientation, has access to services that support their mental health," he explained.

Gomez also talked about how her makeup company, Rare Beauty, promotes mental health awareness.
