With over 3 million TikTok followers and hundreds of videos featuring transformative haircuts, it's no wonder this Calgary hairdresser is known as a "video surgeon."
20-year-old Nigerian-Canadian Doc Dami (aka Damicuts) has proven himself a master hairdresser. Women are above your average barber. His client who goes out not only looks like a new person, but he also engages in conversation. This is only for self-improvement and quality of work. When he doesn't change his life with the new version, he works on himself and spends time interacting with his followers.
He's the real one. And while he doesn't work in a barbershop, he continues the barbershop's legacy as a place for black men to be vulnerable and have honest conversations.
Plus, of course, the fades and compositions are perfect. So, you understand why his client list includes not only ordinary people but also prominent rappers like DDG, Roy Woods, and Dax. Below is a lightly edited Q&A, including Dami's insights into her self-help books, thriving business, and life after the waning "surgery" that exploded on TikTok.

How do you get into cutting?
How do I get started just out of curiosity? As a young man, I was curious about many things. Football was my first love, and everyone played basketball, so I said to myself, 'okay, I'm going to learn a new sport just because it's good,' you know? So I watch a lot of videos on YouTube. I took the ball and dribbled, and it was like a typewriter. My dad shaved my hair because he didn't want to pay the barber... he was our barber for my brother and me.
