It's not a sin to look for business tips and tricks on TikTok.
However, if you want to follow in the footsteps of your favorite entrepreneur or tech titan for example, Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett or Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg you should read one of the books where they learned some of their most valuable lessons.
In a 2015 Facebook post, Zuckerberg, for example, stated that he enjoys reading "first-hand accounts about how people build great companies." According to another post by the 37-year-old billionaire, he reads those books to gain insight into "what causes innovation what kinds of people, questions, also environments."
He's not alone, especially when it comes to successful business leaders.
Four entrepreneurs discuss the books that influenced their careers, business strategies, and, in some cases, the way they think:
1. Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg
In 2015, Zuckerberg read "Creativity, Inc.: Overcoming the Unseen Forces That Obstruct True Inspiration" by Alice Wallace and Pixar co-founder Edwin Catmull. It tells how the animation studio rose to prominence as a leader in entertainment innovation.
Zuckerberg took at least one lesson from Catmull's book: "Don't wait for things to be perfect before sharing them with others," Catmull wrote in the book. "Show up early and show up often." It'll be beautiful when we arrive, but it won't be pretty on the way."
The words "Done is better than perfect" were spray-painted on the Meta headquarters in Menlo Park, California.
Jon Gertner's "The Idea Factory: Bell Labs also the Great Age of American Innovation. Which tells the history of Bell Labs - which was founded by Alexander Graham Bell and is now owned by Nokia - also struck Zuckerberg.
2. Daymond John (and fellow Sharks Barbara Corcoran and Robert Herjavec)
Daymond John, a "Shark Tank" investor, told Make It in 2018 that a few books changed his life. These titles include Stephen Covey's "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" and Robert Kiyosaki and Sharon Lechter's "Rich Dad, Poor Dad."
However, along with fellow Sharks Barbara Corcoran and Robert Herjavec, John has also recommended Napoleon Hill's "Think and Grow Rich." The 1937 business book features interviews with Andrew Carnegie, Henry Ford, and Charles M. Schwab.
