Also a place for a fridge.
The essential items in the Bobby Flaw fridge include cow's milk, a bottle of paprika, and a drawer full of cheese
You might expect a chef's fridge to be well-organized and stocked with specialty products, but that's not the case with Bobby Flay.
The 57-year-old Food Network star shared a tour of his refrigerator for the foodservice Misfits Market's Instagram page. Flay, the company's chef, admits that sizeable stainless steel refrigerators are not "perfectly designed."
"Surprise! Looks more like yours than you think," wrote the Misfit Market video. "Under the crispy cake is celery, mayonnaise, and apples and grapes for breakfast."
Flay kicks off the tour by serving up the drinks she keeps, including everything from cow's milk to organic grapefruit juice to chinotto, an Italian lemonade drink flavored with sour orange.
He jokes that he may be "the only person in the world" who still uses whole milk in his coffee, given today's milk alternative offerings. He says she likes to keep fruit in the fridge, including avocados, but only when they are ripe.
One product that is always ready is eggs. "I like to cook an egg in the morning or sometimes a late-night bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich," she says. Despite its classic looks, the Flay refrigerator has some hidden gems. On that occasion, Beat star Bobby Flay had a bowl of mussels and also brought out a set of "large caviar," which he said was a gift from a friend. "It's such a thing for a chef to have some caviar in the fridge," he said.
Demonstrating a fully stocked cheese drawer, the chef admits he "didn't know the tone of every cheese in the world," he says. "But what's great is when you go to a good shop with good cheesemongers, ask them to offer a few things and try them. Of course, you won't like all of them, but that's the only way I get to know the different types of cheese."
Another thing she always has on deck is good bacon, shishi pepper, and Calabrian pepperoni (her favorite ingredient at BBF).
"Like everyone," he added, "I have celery in the bottom of my fridge waiting to make soup."
