Why Ree Drummond moved from the house where he raised his kids to a 'smaller' house

Drummond Dogs is thrilled with the location update.

"We love raising our kids indoors, but he's struggled with the foundation and has developed some problems that would be very difficult to solve," pioneer Ree Drummond told PEOPLE.

The Drummonds have made an enormous difference recently.

That winter, the Pioneer Woman star moved out of the house where she and her husband Lad raised their children, and Ree spoke exclusively to news about the layoffs. His original home in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, where Lad grew up, is nearly 50 years old.

"It's not a charming 50-year-old house. We love raising our kids at home, but there have been issues with the foundation, and it has developed some issues that would be very unbearable to fix," he told news.

But the Drummonds didn't have to go far. Ree, 53, who will appear on talkshoplive on Tuesday to launch his first outdoor Walmart collection, said his new home still stands on the family farm, where he's lived for 20 years. "Last year we built a small house next to our parent company. And we moved there in December," said the children's mother, Alex, 24; Paige, 22, Bryce, 19; Todd, 18, and adopted son Jamar, 18.

Ree, along with Lad and Todd - who are the only children currently living under their roof - huddled together in the new home in what seemed like a record-breaking easy move: "We packed up and walked through the yard - it was great fun. - and we pulled it off," he said.

Eventually, Ree and Lad plan to build a "main house," This new temporary space will ultimately serve as a "smaller guest house" where their children can stay during their visit.

"When we built our main house, we would only make one or two bedrooms so that it wouldn't be a big big house," he said. "But for now, we are happy at the guest house. And it may be our "home, home" today. It is very convenient and again easy.
